Holiday Nails: Easter 2013

White Nails for Easter

Basic white nails, there is a lot of shimmer to them, but the point was to make them look like hard boiled eggs and then do some nail art with a nail art polish my husband had picked out for me so that they would look like Easter Eggs.  Unfortunately I have been having a really hard time with nail polish the last couple of day and this is quite possibly the 15th attempt to get the white on to the nails correctly.  I know for sure it is over the 9th attempt because that is where I lost count but kept going; I have used roughly 1/3 of a bottle of white nail polish just trying to get this far.

This polish was done this morning, on Easter, on a whim, and this is probably the best I have ever painted my nails because there is very little polish actually on the skin.  While it may not be what I had envisioned several days ago when I came up with my idea of Easter Egg nails, I am very proud of them.

Nail Polish used was Wet N Wild's Megalast Polish in 202A Break the Ice.

Thank you for your time.

Lip Stick Review Form

This form is almost exactly the same as the lip gloss one minus the fact that it says lip stick.  This is because I tend to use these interchangeably although I will also layer a lip gloss over a lip stick if it isn't shinny enough for me.

Lip Stick: Brand Color #

Applied At: Time the lip stick is applied

Cost: (Without any discounts) See earlier review forms.

Lip Liner Review Form

Lip liner has multiple functions for me.  I use them to help the staying power of some lip glosses that have a lot of color to them naturally but don't hang on to the lip well.  I use a clear on to help keep lip stick in place.  And I also use some of them as the lip color all by itself.

When I do these reviews the lip liner will get two chances.  The first will be as a liner, just around the edge of the mouth to keep a lip stick in (provided I have one that would work with it) which is the typical function of a lip liner.  The second chance will be as a full lip color where the whole lip area is colored in with the lip liner as some liners can be very dry and don't really work as a lip color and some for whatever reason cannot attach to the inner part of my lower lip even when others can.

Review: Madame Milly Lip Gloss #1

The kit this is from was purchased for me by my husband a few months ago.  I am not sure if the same kit is still available; this series of reviews is intended to help with deciding whether future purchases from this brand is worthwhile.

Freebies: Influenster and transparency post

On a previous blog that didn't really have anything to do with makeup I did somehow manage to qualify for an Influenster Beauty Blogger Vox Box and received some free products:

NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Custom Compact: 0156-08 Dark Shadows was reviewed.

Kiss Ever Pro Lashes Starter Kit: 05 was reviewed.

Bath & Body Works Mini Candles: Had to give away because I have lots of scent allergies.

EBOOST: Never actually tried

Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin: I have less than 1 inch long hair so this never got tried.

Not Your Mother's Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream: I did actually try and review this.

Review Form: Eye liner

Before my allergies completely leave me unable to think I figured I would try and get a few more of these review forms completed.

First I would like to state that I can only use eyeliner on my eye lid/upper lash line.  I have tried using it on my lower lash line and my water line a few times with different brands and every time the lower lash line and lashes themselves will start to hurt after one day of use and the pain lasts for about a week, sometimes longer.  If wearing eye liner below your eye is important for you then I would recommend also looking at reviews on other sites if any of them talk about that, I don't actually know, I just know some people like to put eye liner on the lower lash line and/or water line and while I would like to be able to, it just hurts to much and I try to avoid pain when possible.

Eye Liner: Brand, Color # (if available)

Applied At: What time I applied the eye liner

Review Form: Allergy Season: Lip Balm Reviews?

So allergy season has struck and so my ability to do makeup reviews is going to be diminished because I am actually allergic to allergy medicine.  This means I spend the whole season with itchy eyes (so reviewing eye makeup is pointless), a runny nose, and dried out lips (which makes most lip makeup pointless as well).  My husband has suggested that I review lip balms during this time to see which one works best for me (then he will probably stock up on that brand extensively).

I am seriously considering this as it happens every year and lasts for more than a month and cracked/bleeding lips are no fun.  I also happen to love lip balm and this could make for a good excuse to buy brands I don't already own.  Please keep in mind that any review of a lip balm, as with all of the other reviews, is simply how it worked out for me and it may not work the same for you.  These will be very basic reviews as allergy season generally also sees an increase in fog level so brain processing power is not that high right now.

Nail Polish Review Form

Since the next review will most likely be a nail polish one.

Things of note for how I apply nail polish.  First off the base and top coat used will be Wet N Wild's fast dry Clear Coat or which every Wet N Wild Clear Coat I have on hand as I am guessing they are all the same.  The only exceptions would be if the base coat/top coat came in a kit with the nail polish being reviewed.  Also, I am very bad at applying polish to my nails, it frequently looks like I have dipped my fingers in paint after the initial application.  It does get better, but I do not use nail polish remover to do the clean up because I am even worse at controlling that.  I just let washing my hands, showers, and baths soak the polish on the skin off because it does a much better job than I do and usually in less than 24 hours which is why I always do my nails on days I am pretty sure I am not going to leave the house that evening.

Nail Polish: Brand: # Name

Day Applied: MM - DD - YYYY

Cost: Price I (also read as, my husband) paid because we only buy makeup on sale/clearance.  (Without any discounts)

Eyeshadow Review Form

Eyeshadow Brand: Eyeshadow #, Name (if available)

Applied At: What time I put the eyeshadow on.

Cost: (Without any discounts) If I have the actual amount paid that will be given, without discounts is what it would have cost if it hadn't been bought on sale.  Almost all of my makeup was bought on sale or on clearance.

Shimmer: Yes/No If it has shimmer in it this will say yes, otherwise this say no.

Swatch Pictures:

Picture(s) of the eyeshadow on my arm, with an without primer and as applied with finger and with brush.

Crease time without primer

I check my eyeshadow ever 30 minutes, + or - a few minutes since I do not use a timer, but it shouldn't go over an hour as reviews are only done on days when I have absolutely nothing else which can be done (meaning my husband isn't home.)  As soon as I notice a line forming in the crease, I note how long it has been in hours/minutes and will list that here.

How I Makeup My Mind About Makeup: Review Explanations Posts to Follow

While I have already posted one review about a lip liner and the way my review posts are/will be structured may give hints as to how I review things and what my expectations are, I thought it would be helpful to actually type them out and share them as everyone has different opinions on how makeup should work and this may help you decide if I would be a good source of information for you.

I currently have standardized review forms on:

Eyeshadow
Eye Liner
Mascara
Lip Balm
Lip Liner
Lip Stick
Lip Gloss
Nail Polish

Review: Madame Milly Lip Liner

The kit this lip liner is from was purchased for me by my husband a few months ago.  I am not sure if the same kit is still available; this series of reviews is intended to help with deciding whether future purchases from this brand is worthwhile.

Lip Liner: Madame Milly Lip Liner

Applied At: 1:00 PM

Cost: Kits at Kohl's range from $20 to $40.  Kohl's does run regular sales so I always recommend waiting for one of those when considering makeup there.

Upcoming Review: Three Madame Milly Kits

The following makeup was purchased from Kolh's a while ago and I was just realizing I had never used it other than three of the smaller lip glosses which I liked enough to use up.  When I looked around to see if there were any reviews of this brand I realized that most of the ones given where very short and not very detailed as to why the person didn't like the makeup (there was very little positive said about any of it); this is part of what inspired the creation of this blog.

Tips: Nail Polish Clear Coat/Top Coat and avoiding color transfer to the bottle

So yesterday I was applying the nail polish I plan to post a review of in seven to eight days and while I was applying the top coat I thought including tips on this blog as separate posts would be a good idea.  If the tip I am including is something I learned from a YouTube video or another website I will link to the source as most of the tips will probably not be things I came up with myself.  If the tip is something I came up with myself I am not claiming to be the only person who ever thought to do whatever it is I am suggesting, just that I personally hadn't heard/read it from anyone else.

Does the world really need another makeup blog?

Maybe not, but my reasons for writing this are purely personal and not for the betterment of mankind. If I can help someone decide whether or not a makeup product is worth getting or better left on the store shelf I will be very pleased with myself and happy I have been able to help. Admittedly though, my main reason for starting this blog is because I love to talk about makeup and while my husband is incredibly thoughtful and kind and will listen to me ramble all day, I know he would much rather talk about something else, so I thought it might be better to have a separate outlet for my makeup conversations, however one sided they may be.
